Dr. Langlois transferred to Child Development from the Speech and Hearing Sciences
Department in 1993. She had obtained a doctorate in speech-language pathology from
Columbia University and certificates in both Early Intervention and Family Intervention from
San Francisco State University. During a sabbatical at Denver Children’s Hospital’s, she
focused on developmentally supportive care for at risk newborns and on the readability of
written materials given to parents. Based on her expertise Dr. Langlois developed and
taught courses on language development, children with disabilities, and families of
exceptional children. She also prepared and trained professionals in parent-centered
intervention. Her combined background as a speech-language pathologist, early
interventionist, and child development specialist allowed her to explore what facilitates
optimum interactions between parents and professionals. She has published in the pediatric
literature and has presented on this topic at professional conferences.
